RUBBISH COVER VERSIONS

Which one is worse, do you think?
The Phixx Mike Yarwooding of ‘Wild Boys’ (if it’s on in the background, you can forget for a moment that it’s not DD; everything, everything is the same, the arrangement, the vocals…)
Whoever it is who’s done ‘Alright Now’… What exactly is the point in this?

I assume the Phixx one was a sort-of ‘reply’ to the Girls Aloud “Girls On Film” cover, which added a micro-thin layer of sheen to a basically identical production. But at least there was some conceptual ‘point’ to the GoF one, even if it was pretty cheap. There are surely loads of better things for Phixx to have covered.

It’s not that they covered it, it’s how really. I mean, ‘Wild Boys’ is possibly the single that’s most idiosyncratically Duran; you can’t imagine any other group doing anything remotely like it. What’s astonishing is that Phixx add nothing to it; it’s not a version, it’s a reconstruction.
Didn’t know GA had done ‘Girls on Film’ btw – but that was bound to be in some way different simply because of the gender switch…

That “Alright Now” cover is much much worse – it is one of those songs that is so ubiquitous and “classic rock” dull that you could live your entire life and never want to hear it ever again.
“Wild Boys” reminds of the stupid original DD video and amuses me (drown simon! drown!), even if it is a crap cover version.
