This just in from Marcus at Rephlex:
“Rephlex are releasing a 4 x 10 inch vinyl set of works by the bbc radiophonic workshop just in time for Christmas!
The 4 x ten inch vinyl version we are releasing features the members‚ work given roughly a side per member, except Delia Derbyshire, perhaps the most celebrated of all the members who gets a whole record to herself for the first time ever.
It brings together tracks from the recently released radiophonic 1 and 2 cd’s .”

    Thanks Marcus.
The vinyl release BBC Radiophonic Workshop-21 included the original version of Time Beat (as distinct from George Martin’s elaboration). Why this and her other Workshop compositions couldn’t have been included on the first CD is a mystery.
VLS’s documentary also featured Maddalena’s frankly terrifying re-realization of an Eric Coates march.

  5. marcus Says:

well as you can imagine – ownership/rights/estates etc and just having a decent archive is a bit of a nightmare when releasing this kind of thing

  6. sH Says:

Mark Ayers is definitely working on more Radiophonic reissues, and from what I can gather the “21” type material will be much in evidence. The two CDs from last year were never intended to stray far from the original tracklistings – in fact the extra tracks on there were originally intended for the 1968 and 1975 releases but were left off the final masters for one reason or another. I’ll won’t be satisfied until John Baker’s 1970s BBC Wales continuity tune “Troes Y Garreg” is released, though.
Talking of Time Beat (the record version), it was played on BBC2 over the Ceefax pages a few nights ago, just before the Learning Zone started – the slightly-extended stereo mix, as well. Didn’t see that one coming.

    Yo Freelance!

    *coughs*
    Er, who?
    *coughs again*

  9. Richard Anthony Baker Says:

As the brother of John Baker, I have many of his tapes. In time, I mean to issue a limited-edition CD of his work.

  10. sH Says:

Richard – that would be wonderful. John’s work has never recieved the acclaim it deserves, and I’ll be first in the queue for a copy. Do keep us informed, please.
