    but he started it, dad.

  2. mark k-p Says:

    LOL….
He may well have done, but at least he put his name to it, too.
I don’t want to be censorious, but look how that thread started out — lots of great ideas, especially from MC — and look out how it ended up.
I’m not blaming anyone, and I’m well aware of how certain parties attract if not unconsciously seek out acrimony, but I just don’t feel personal arguments are particularly helpful, positive or interesting; nor do I think this is the best forum on which to conduct them.

He’s a condescending, British Sea Power-loving Time Out hack, furgodsake.

  4. mark Says:

Maybe so, but he’s a fantastic writer, anyone can see that, and, equally evidently, he really knows his stuff.
    Come now. Admit it.

  5. Andreas Beyer Says:

If his judgement’s that bleeding useless then he could hardly “know his stuff”.

  6. francesco Says:

i didn’t read that thread until the end, when it started to become a exchanges of injuries i give up by boredom.
Marcello Carlin didn’t have need for advocates, he can do it himself and better, but you (anonimous) guys just don’t have an inch of his great writing skill, not an ounce of his LOVE for music. I enjoy reading him so much, should he care or not, even when his (always very competent) opinion on this or that singer/music are opposite or differ from mine, more even so probably.
And hey, i grow out of insulting people because listen different music from me long time ago.
    Cool down, relax.
    francesco

  7. mark k-p Says:

Well, you know I disagree with him about BSP, but then judgement and knowledge are not the same thing.
He’s certainly not a hack, that’s ridiculous. His writing brings music alive, surely that’s incontestable.

  8. Andreas Beyer Says:

but then judgement and knowledge are not the same thing
So you originally meant that Carlin deserves our admiration for his compendious knowledge/enormous record collection?

  9. mark Says:

Partly yeh. What’s wrong with having compendious knowledge?
That and his writing ability are two things to admire him for.

  10. Andreas Beyer Says:

    But not necessarily his judgement.
Glad we got that one cleared up. Phew.

  11. mark Says:

Not necessarily his judgement, which is far from my saying that his jugement is suspect. It just means that I don’t always concur with it.

  12. mark Says:

Which is how it should be.

  14. Anonymous Says:

That was Mark, Marcello and I having a great big hug.

  15. Anonymous Says:

This is just beyond depressing. Mark, please block the ISP addresses of both Beavis and Butthead or else I’m not going to bother commenting on your blog any further.

  16. Marcello Carlin Says:

    sorry, that was me.

  17. mark Says:

I’m not going to block the IP addresses, Marcello. But any more attacks on you will be deleted on a case by case basis.

  18. Marcello Carlin Says:

Have it your way, Mark, it’s your blog.
    Bye.

  19. mark Says:

It makes little difference really Marcello whether I block the IPs or delete the comments manually. All abuse of you will be deleted from now on, but I am not willing to block the IPs because I retain hope that those two correspondents will discourse on other subjects than just yourself.

  20. Andreas Beyer Says:

I’ll comment as I see fit, Mark.

  21. Marcello Carlin Says:

    See what I mean?
Oh well, if that’s the company you want to keep, then you’re welcome to them. I’m out of here. Bye.

  22. Philip Says:

Come now. Surely ultimatums are as petty as name calling… as Jack Nicholson says in Batman, can’t we all just try and get along?

  23. high court judge Says:

Stand not upon the order of your going,
    But go at once.

  24. amblongus Says:

Indeed, Philip, although you’ll get nothing but lumps for trying to be the voice of reason. There’s something about internet arguments that makes them collapse into rabid flame wars after about 16 posts.
I’m not sure blocking IPs is the answer. I’m sure there are countless ways around this. Besides, most dial-up users don’t use a fixed IP address.
And if you will discuss Morrissey you’re asking for trouble. You should pick safe topics like foorball, Iraq and gay marriage….

  25. mark Says:

Thanks Amblongus. Can that be the last word on this depressing thread?
